TOUR OF GAYA
Gaya is famous as a sacred Hindu pilgrimage destination, particularly for the Pind Daan ritual for ancestors, and for its religious significance to Buddhists as the site of Bodh Gaya, where Buddha attained enlightenment. Key landmarks include the Vishnupad Temple, believed to contain Lord Vishnu’s footprints, and the ancient Bodhi Tree. The city is also known for its local sweet, Tilkut.
Pind Daan:
Gaya is the most important site for performing Pind Daan (or Shraddha Karma), a ritual where Hindus offer oblations to their departed ancestors to ensure their peace and salvation.
Lord Ram:
It’s believed that Lord Rama performed the Pind Daan ceremony for his father, King Dasharatha, at Gaya, adding to its sacredness.
Vishnupad Temple:
This ancient temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is said to house a rock with the footprints of the deity.
